Headteachers Welcome

Welcome to Sebert Wood Primary School.

On behalf of the governors, staff and children we are pleased to welcome you to the Sebert Wood School website. We hope that you find it informative, useful and interesting.
At Sebert Wood we offer high standards of education and we’re convinced that this is due to exciting learning, outstanding teaching and of course motivated pupils who feel safe, have confidence in themselves and want to do their best.

We aim to take really good care of your child and to meet their individual needs. We listen carefully to the views of children and parents and attach great importance to consideration for others and recognition of each other’s achievements.

At the heart of everything we do, are our aims and values that develop children’s independence, their ability to solve problems and think creatively, their skills of collaboration and their respect for each other and the world in which we live. We also place great emphasis on healthy lifestyles and keeping fit.

We expect high standards in everything we do and believe in educating the whole child. We feel strongly that children should have opportunities to develop a wide range of skills and interests beyond the school curriculum. There are many exciting educational experiences - theatre companies, speakers, musical events, visits, sports activities and swimming. The range of after-school and lunchtime clubs is very wide and we have a big emphasis on all children being physically active. Our extensive range of clubs has included: multi-skills, guitar, ICT, dance, art, science, chess, football, rugby and hockey, to name but a few!

We have a strong, enthusiastic and committed staff team with a wide range of talents and a great deal of experience, dedicated governors and a pro active ‘Friends’/PTA committee. Everyone works for the benefit of the school to provide the best education for all our children. The school also has positive links with the local community. We firmly believe in working alongside our parents in partnership and parental involvement in the children’s education is actively encouraged.

Following the change to the school system within Bury St Edmunds, in September 2015 we kept our Year 5 pupils and will become a full primary by 2016. The Governing Body fully supports the County Council proposal and believes it is in the best interests of our children and will further raise standards.

We believe our school is a happy and vibrant learning community with high expectations, is forward thinking and has a caring atmosphere and an exciting, challenging curriculum, but above all, a school that children really want to come to.

We hope this website provides you with the information you require, however we firmly believe that there is no substitute for seeing the school at work. So, if you are a prospective parent and you’d like to come in and visit, preferably along with your child, you’ll be very welcome.
